What I am learning from my white grandchildren -- truths about race | Anthony Peterson | TEDxAntioch
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Are we in a post-racial society? Do we want to be? Anthony Peterson, an African American, draws from current research and from conversations with his Anglo American grandchildren to address truths about race in 21st century America.
Anthony Peterson is an African American Army brat who calls Hawaii home. He has lived, studied, written about, and taught about cultural and racial realities. He has developed and facilitated diversity training for corporate and church leaders. His degrees in psychology and religious education add to his perspective. Anthony continues work as an educator, writer and editor in Nashville, Tennessee, where he lives with his wife, Laura. They count six children and nine grandchildren.

Geometric Deep Learning is able to draw insights from graph data. That includes social networks, sensor networks, the entire Internet, and even 3D Objects (if we consider point cloud data to be a graph). I'll explain how it works via a demo of me using a graph convolutional network to classify people by their interest in sports teams as well as a 3D object classification demo. At its core, it comes down to being able to learn from non-Euclidean data. Euclid's laws help define certain types of data, so I'll cover some geometry background as well. Enjoy!

Peter Senge is a Senior Lecturer in Leadership and Sustainability at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
The Journal of Business Strategy (September/October 1999) named Senge one of the 24 people who has had the greatest influence on business strategy over the last 100 years. The Financial Times (2000) named him one of the world’s top management gurus, andBusinessWeek (October 2001) rated Senge one of the top 10 management gurus. Senge has lectured extensively throughout the world, translating the abstract ideas of systems theory into tools for better understanding of economic and organizational change. He studies decentralizing the role of leadership in organizations so as to enhance the ability of employees to work productively toward common goals, and the managerial and institutional changes needed to build more sustainable enterprises—those businesses that foster social and natural as well as economic well-being. Senge’s work articulates a cornerstone position of human values in the workplace: namely, that vision, purpose, reflectiveness, and systems thinking are essential if organizations are to realize their potential. He has worked with leaders in business, education, civil society, healthcare, and government.
Senge is the founding chair of the Society for Organizational Learning (SoL), a global community of corporations, researchers, and consultants dedicated to the “interdependent development of people and their institutions.” He is the author of the widely acclaimed book, The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of The Learning Organization (1990). With colleagues Charlotte Roberts, Rick Ross, Bryan Smith, and Art Kleiner, he is the co-author of The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook: Strategies and Tools for Building a Learning Organization (1994) and a second fieldbook The Dance of Change: The Challenges to Sustaining Momentum in Learning Organizations (March 1999), co-authored by George Roth. In September 2000, Senge co-authored a fieldbook on education, the award-winning Schools That Learn: A Fifth Discipline Fieldbook for Educators, Parents, and Everyone Who Cares About Education (2000). The Fifth Discipline hit a nerve within the business and education communities by introducing the theory of learning organizations. Since its publication, more than one million copies have been sold worldwide. In 1997, Harvard Business Review identified it as one of the seminal management books of the past 75 years. The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook was developed in response to questions from readers of The Fifth Discipline who wanted more help with tools, methods, and practical experiences in developing enhanced learning capabilities within their own companies. The Dance of Change is based on more recent experiences of companies developing learning capabilities over many years, and the strategies leaders develop to deal with the many challenges this work entails. He also has authored many articles published in both academic journals and the business press on systems thinking in management, and has co-authored Presence: Human Purpose and the Field of the Future.
Senge holds a BS in engineering from Stanford University as well as an SM in social systems modeling and a PhD in management from MIT.
#DESCRIPTION
Peter Senge answers the question by first suggesting that “we jettison the jargon” and work on organizations where everyone works together successfully. He discusses how there are only two dominant factors within an organization: control or learning and the question is which one is dominant. He lays out the major factors that need to be present in order for an organization to be centered in learning.

Note: In this tutorial I use natural logarithms. If you used logarithms base 10, you may get different answers that I got, although at the end it doesn't matter, since using a different base for the logarithm just scales all the logarithms by a constant.

One of the most significant things that children learn in school is to be taught. They learn the skills and attitudes that are required to thrive (or oppose) a teacher-led environment. In traditional schools the attitudes included passivity, dependence, credulity, instrumentality and timidity. These are compatible with getting good grades, but not with becoming a powerful, independent real-life learner. As adults, our lives are diminished if we carry these attitudes forward with us into work, family life and leisure. The Learning Power Approach is uncovering a way to teach which avoids this pitfall.
Guy Claxton is emeritus Professor of the Learning Sciences at the University of Winchester, a post he took up in September 2008 together with the role of Co-Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning (CrL).He previously held the same title at the University of Bristol Graduate School of Education. He has a ‘double first’ from Cambridge and a DPhil from Oxford, and is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and the Royal Society of Arts, and an Academician of the Academy of the Social Sciences. Guy Claxton is the author of more than twenty books including the best selling Building Learning Power.

What would you learn if you could learn it in half the time? Another language? How to start a business? Get excited about this, because Jim Kwik is about to show you how to tap into your speed learning superpowers. Join his free masterclass here: https://go.mindvalley.com/Superbrain

VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS :
00:12 How can we learn faster?
02:18 What is long-term memory?
03:52 Stan Lee "with great power comes great responsibility"
********
We’ve been taught a giant lie — we’ve been taught that our learning is limited and fixed.
Want to know the REAL truth?
Learning is absolutely LIMITLESS. You can learn as much as you want, about whatever you want, and, yes, as FAST as you want.
In this quick video, learning and memory expert, Jim Kwik, teaches you how to tap into your speed learning superpowers so that you can learn anything in half the time — and make it stick.
He uses the simple, yet witty acronym: FAST
Forget —
Forget what you already know about a subject. Open yourself to learn something new. Start every subject with a beginners mind. Also, forget about what else is going on in the world around you — distraction is not friends with learning. Finally, forget about your limitations; your learning is limitless.
Active —
As Jim Kwik often says, “Learning is not a spectator sport.” We don’t learn through consumption, we learn from creation. Get active while learning.
State —
By state, he means the current mood of your mind and body. Information, when combined with emotion, creates long term memory. You can learn much more by getting excited about what you learning.
Ever notice how you tend to remember the names of people you find attractive much more easily? Hmm…
Teach —
Learn something as if you are going to teach it to someone else. When you teach something, you get to learn it twice.
When you learn faster, you achieve faster. It’s time to start speed learning.
ABOUT JIM KWIK:
Once labeled “the boy with the broken brain,” Jim Kwik is now the world’s leading expert in memory improvement and brain performance. He is a powerful Brain Coach for Hollywood superstars, top universities, Fortune 500 organizations, and big-time entrepreneurs like Peter Diamandis, Richard Branson, and Elon Musk.
