Being accepted into the University of Cambridge, is the best achievement I have ever had.
As it is the BEGINNING of the Academic year, I have created a video informing viewers of my education, and how poor my results where, but more importantly how I overcame expectations.

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Artika R. Tyner shares her vision for reimagining education - it begins with placing an explicit focus on leadership development and social justice advocacy. In her talk, the educator and civil rights attorney shares her experience of transforming the classroom into a learning laboratory where students experiment by applying their technical training to address the social justice challenges of our time.
Dr. Artika Renee Tyner is a passionate educator, author, sought after speaker, and advocate for justice. At the University of St. Thomas College of Education, Leadership & Counseling, Dr. Tyner serves as a public policy/leadership professor. She trains graduate students to serve as social engineers who create new inroads to justice and freedom. Dr. Tyner leads by example by organizing policy campaigns, fostering restorative justice practices, developing social entrepreneurship initiatives, and promoting assets-based community development. She serves as a global citizen by supporting education, entrepreneurship, and women’s leadership initiatives in Africa.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
In February 2019, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos proposed the Education Freedom Scholarships (EFS), which would provide $5 billion in dollar-for-dollar federal tax credits to individuals and businesses that contribute to state-approved scholarship-granting organizations. Unlike previous efforts to promote school choice, this proposal wouldn’t create any new federal programs or limit the choices families can make.
So, what sets EFS apart from existing school choice initiatives, and how will they be implemented on the federal and state levels? Join us at AEI for a conversation with Secretary DeVos and other federal and state decision makers and state leaders to address these questions.

Education for disaster preparedness can provide life-saving and life-sustaining information and skills that protect in particular children and young people during and after emergencies.
Disasters are not natural, they only occur when people lack preparedness or the ability to cope with hazards: it is the combination of an exposed and ill-prepared population or community with a hazard event that results in a disaster. Education therefore has a vital role to play in preparing communities and building disaster resilient societies and safe lives.
UNESCO provides tools for integrating Disaster Risk Reduction into schools and provides training for teachers and educators on how to educate children and youth to prepare for disasters.
UNESCO MGIEP focuses on achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4.7 towards education for building peaceful and sustainable societies across the world by developing programmes that promote social and emotional learning, innovate digital pedagogies and empower the youth.
In this video I discuss whether you should get further education beyond a bachelor's degree. There are many types of further schooling you can go into including a master's and phd, medical school, nursing school, pharmacy school, law school, MBA, etc. For many careers like becoming a doctor, dentist, or vet you definitely need that further education, but for many other careers it's not so obvious.
People get an MBA when they want to go into a business related field or management of some kind. An MBA is something that can also help you ease your way into the business field from another field like engineering. However, you should wait a few years and get real world experience before pursuing an MBA because it doesn't always help and isn't always needed.
Engineers really don't NEED to get anything past a bachelor's in order to start their career. A master's does help for those who want to go more into research though. The people doing research and design work at companies are typically those with higher degrees.
Students who are considering chemistry, biochemistry, or biology should really consider getting a master's (assuming they are not going into healthcare like becoming a doctor, pharmacist, etc). It's been said by a lot of graduates that they felt it was tough to move up in their career with just a bachelor's in one of those sciences. If you want to do more of the design work in medicine as an example, you'll need to go beyond a bachelor's.
For math and physics you also don't NEED to get a master's or PhD in order to start your career. Pure math students usually will get a master's and PhD because they want to work in academia doing research/become a professor. If you want to do physics research as well then you should get a master's or PhD.
Overall getting further education, specifically a master's or PhD, is a great way to increase your salary, learn more about a field, qualify for certain jobs, or have a change in your career. Some of the downsides include how much it costs and the time it will take. Make sure to do your own research on the field you want to go into so you know whether it's worth the time and money.

Computer science education: why does it suck so much and what if it didn’t? | Ashley Gavin | TEDxNYU
Ashley’s talk shines a light on the major problem that is American Computer Science education. In 2020, 1.4 million new jobs will be available for those with competing backgrounds, but we’ll only have engineers to fill two-thirds of them. Ashley shows us how we can right this wrong.
Ashley Gavin is a computer science education consultant with a passion for making computer science curricula empowering, accessible, and above all, fun. Her work in curriculum and program development serves as the foundation for some of the finest educational organizations in the country including her brainchild “Girls Who Code”.
During high school, Ashley was actively interested in tech. However, she was denied access to computer science courses at her school due her failing grades in math and science. In her senior year, the newly appointed CS teacher noticed her affinity for tech and took a risk by letting her drop math and take computer science instead. Ashley has since been working to do so for as many students as possible, especially those in underrepresented groups.

This UNESCO video illustrates the importance of preventing violent extremism through education. It is based on excerpts from “My Former Life”, produced by the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, based on testimonies of people once engaged in promoting or perpetrating extreme violence. This video also draws attention to some of the drivers of violent extremism, to the role of education in preventing violent extremism and to educational approaches recommended by UNESCO.
A college education has the potential to greatly change an individual's life choices and experiences. However, access to higher education is not readily available to everyone and, even when individuals have the opportunity to attend, there are significant achievement gaps across race, class and gender. Taking a look internally, Georgia State University has found that little changes can make significant differences for student success.
Timothy Renick is Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success, Vice Provost, and Professor of Religious Studies at Georgia State University. He has served as Chair of the Department of Religious Studies and Director of the Honors Program. Since 2008, he has directed the student success and enrollment efforts of the university, overseeing among the fastest improving graduation rates in the nation and the elimination of all achievement gaps based on students’ race, ethnicity or income level. Dr. Renick has testified on strategies for helping university students succeed before the U.S. Senate and has twice been invited to speak at the White House. His work has been covered by the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and CNN and cited by President Obama. He was named one of 2016’s Most Innovative People in Higher Education by Washington Monthly and was the recipient of the 2015-16 Award for National Leadership in Student Success Innovation.
