Singapore is one of the highest-achieving school systems in the world yet teachers have relatively fewer instructional hours compared to teachers in the U.S. As a senior teacher at Kranji Secondary School in Singapore, Rosmiliah's typical work week involves only 12–14 hours of academic teaching. This film follows a day in the life of Rosmiliah and provides intriguing insight into how teacher time is managed in Singapore.
"Time for Learning: A Day in the Life of a Singaporean Teacher," is a product of the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education (SCOPE) study, “Comparative Study of Time Use in Schools.” Sponsored by the Ford Foundation, the study examines policies and practices related to teacher quality used by high-achieving jurisdictions.
This is lecture 1 of course 6.S094: Deep Learning for Self-Driving Cars (2018 version). This class is free and open to everyone. It is an introduction to the practice of deep learning through the applied theme of building a self-driving car.

Looking to 2050 and beyond, the initiative seeks to reimagine how education and knowledge can contribute to the global common good. The initiative is catalyzing a global debate on how knowledge, education and learning need to be reimagined in a world of increasing complexity, uncertainty, and precarity.
This initiative mobilizes the many rich ways of being and knowing in order to leverage humanity’s collective intelligence. It relies on a broad, open consultative process that involves youth, educators, civil society, governments, business and other stakeholders. The work is being guided by a high-level International Commission of thought-leaders from diverse fields and different regions of the world. In late 2021, the commission will publish a global report designed to share a forward looking vision on how education and learning can enable us to become what we want to become.

The presenters are Aaron Silver, from DISC, the organisation tasked with xAPI interoperability and conformance (http://datainteroperability.org/ ), and Anthony Whyte of the University of Michigan, who has been centrally involved in recent IMS Caliper developments.
The drive to deliver education at scale coupled with a demand for accountability backed by measurability has spurred the application of “big data” principles to the business of education. Opportunities to tap new data sources have grown as both the learning technology ecosystem has expanded and the definition of what constitutes learning has evolved beyond the formal classroom experience to include informal, social and experiential modes of acquiring knowledge and skills. The challenges implicit | inherent in describing, collecting and exchanging learner activity data originating from such diverse sources are formidable. In response, two learning technology specifications, ADL’s xAPI and IMS Global’s Caliper Analytics, now offer standardized approaches that aim to address the data and semantic interoperability issues inherent in the blending | sharing of learning data between systems. For both communities, early work has focused on developing a RESTful architecture for mediating machine-to-machine data exchange and grappling with the challenge of defining an information model and controlled vocabularies that leverage semantic web principles and practices. Join Aaron Silvers and Anthony Whyte for a lively discussion of the current state and possible futures of both xAPI and Caliper.

Разные технологии обещали радикально изменить образование, но пока мало в этом преуспели. Так что могло бы всё-таки кардинально поменять процесс образования?
Было много идей: кинофильмы, движущиеся картинки… И в ряде случаев они действительно сделали обучение более… развлекательным, но так и не вошли массово в классы и аудитории.
Телевидение и видеоролики — это те же фильмы, только проще и дешевле. Но и они не оправдали ожиданий. Сейчас мы живём во времена переизбытка информации, в интернете можно найти что угодно, но значит ли что, доступность информации полностью изменит образование?
Дерек Мюллер разбирается, в чем заключается механизм обучения и почему развитие технологий не оказывает на него столь серьезного влияния, как ожидалось.

Вообще-то идея, как говорится хорошая: уровень образования детей не должен зависеть от размера кошельков их родителей. Но надо ли для этого ликвидировать частные школы, чтобы раздать все их активы школам государственным?
Большая часть британцев считает, что нет. К тому же в этом случае государству придется взять на себя дополнительное образование еще более чем 600000 учеников. Сумма может получиться очень немаленькой.
К тому же не стоит забывать, что частные школы являются своего рода частными же компаниями, и попытка отобрать их собственность автоматически приведет к судебным искам.
А если к тому моменту Британия еще не уйдет из ЕС, то будут привлечены и европейские суды. Так что более разумным представляется попытка поднять образование в государственных школах до уровня частных. Пока что, правда, такие попытки не удавались.
