Sir Ken Robinson provides the closing statement for the LWF 12 conference under the theme "leading a learning revolution".
Reforms are required for our industrial scale education systems but what forms shall they take, what will they value and what purpose shall they serve?
In closing the LWF 12 conference Sir Ken Robinson reflects on what has been heard and discussed with previous speakers and offers a call to action for the delegates to look at the future with a new determination based upon the challenges that future generations face and where our education systems will need to nurture the creative innovators upon which our future well-being will be placed.
Presented at the Learning Without Frontiers Conference, London, 26th January 2012.

University of Oklahoma professor, David Ray, asks what is a college education? Does everyone need one?
David Ray joined the OU faculty in 1992, after teaching for 14 years at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, and before that 3 years at Boston College. Ray received his BA cum laude from Yale (1967), and his MA and PhD from Stanford (1969, 1978) in political science. He served in the US Army from 1969 to 1971. At OU, he has taught Honors courses almost every semester, but also large lecture sections of the required Gen Ed American government course -- Ray typically has taught about 900 students per year in 3 or 4 classes per semester. He also supervised Graduate Teaching Assistants for the Department of Political Science and administered a program in teacher training for the Department's GTAs. At Georgia Tech, he received the University Award for Teacher of the Year and the IFC (Inter-fraternity Council) Outstanding Teacher Award.

In my video series I entitled "Entity Education" I will be breaking down the Killers, Perks, and techniques used in Dead by Daylight to hopefully help educate people about the ins and outs of playing Killer at a high rank.
Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught and killed.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: The Essential Value of a Classic Education.
JEFFREY BRENZEL, Philosopher, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions at Yale University
Dean Brenzel argues that not only can reading the great classics like Plato's Republic and Dante's Inferno enrich your education, it can actually make your life better. Pointing out that we can't possibly read all of the books in the world, Brenzel makes a case for reading the right books the right way in order to get the most intellectual bang for your reading buck. Which books qualify as the "right" books is one of the most controversial subjects in academia, and Brenzel outlines the five key characteristics that every great book must fulfill in order to make that coveted list.

Through the power of a paintbrush, Océane Boulais illustrates the essentiality of art integration into STEM education to create STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). From Leonardo Da Vinci to Albert Einstein to Steve Jobs, the presence of STEAM has been the driving force of the world’s innovative thinking for centuries.
Océane was selected to be the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineer’s Extreme Engineer of the Year after participating in a 24-hour competition, which challenged hundreds of engineering students in the realms of technical skill, innovative thinking, and leadership capability. A complete theater and visual art geek at heart, Océane passionately values the importance of integrating engineering, creativity, and imagination.
An active advocate for the younger generations involvement in STEAM, Océane is a student leader. She is involved in several organizations on FAU’s campus, which provide platforms of opportunity for elementary, middle, and high school students to get stoked about STEAM.

Montessori Education is based on the principles developed by Maria Montessori, who opened her first school for children of low-income workers in an apartment building in Rome in 1907. The school was called “Casa dei Bambini”, Home for Children.
This first “Casa” was furnished with a teachers table, a stove, a blackboard, some chairs, group tables for the children and a cabinet filled with materials that Montessori developed in her earlier career when she researched how to teach kids who experience some form of mental disability.
Maria Montessori created the materials after she realised that students seem to understand complex concepts better when they engaged all their senses.
Activities at this first school included personal care (such as dressing and undressing), care of the environment like sweeping, dusting and gardening. Otherwise they were free to move around and play with the materials. Montessori did not teach herself but instead oversaw the classroom work of her teachers.
Montessori observed that children showed episodes of deep concentration and multiple repetitions of the same activity. Given free choice, kids showed more interest in practical activities and the materials than normal toys, sweets or other rewards. Over time spontaneous self-discipline emerged.
Montessori concluded that working independently children seemed to reach new levels of autonomy and become self-motivated learners. She began to see the role of the teacher as a facilitator of young human beings who are free to move and act within the limits of a prepared environment. The goal: to grow children to become independent and responsible adults who share a love for learning.
Soon after Montessori herself and her ideas started travelling the world to inspired progressive thinkers and educators from all over. The inventors, Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison, became early advocates. Later alumni include Jimmy Wales from Wikipedia, author Gabriel Garcia Marquez as well as the two Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Today the term “Montessori” stands more for a method, than a school itself. The fact that it can be used freely by anyone led to a great variation of schools. Educators all over the world borrow Montessori's name, insights and materials to organize kindergartens, elementary schools, special needs programs, or even full 12 year curriculums. Some parents use it for homeschooling.
The following characteristics are shared among most programs:
- Students are free to choose what to learn
- Open classrooms that allow free movement
- Use of specialised Montessori materials
- Mixed age classes (from 0-3, 3-6 or 6-12) so children can learn from each other
- Uninterrupted blocks of study time, usually three hours
- No grading or homework
- and a trained teacher
Maria Montessori once famously said: “Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.”What are your thoughts on Montessori? Please share your opinions in the comments below!

The Rich and the wealthy are always taking a different route to get educated. For over 700 years, the wealthy were always 10 steps ahead of the poor it terms of education. But in the recent years, thanks to the internet age, the access to the wealthy education is now even possible. And no, we're not talking about the 4 year college education. In fact, the 4 year college degree is considered the poor people's education today. Don't get blinded by the false social norms. That's EXACTLY where the large corporate wealthy entities want you to believe to continue supplying them of human capital and employees.

What is STEM? It's the acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. But while kindergarten through 12th grade education usually focuses on science or mathematics in isolation, all four of these disciplines are closely intertwined in the real world. Imagine if K-12 students were taught in ways that highlighted these connections, making their education more relevant to their lives and opening doors to new and exciting careers. Watch this video and tell us what you think!
For more information about integrated STEM education, check out the report: http://www.nap.edu/catalog/186....12/stem-integration-
A college education has the potential to greatly change an individual's life choices and experiences. However, access to higher education is not readily available to everyone and, even when individuals have the opportunity to attend, there are significant achievement gaps across race, class and gender. Taking a look internally, Georgia State University has found that little changes can make significant differences for student success.
Timothy Renick is Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success, Vice Provost, and Professor of Religious Studies at Georgia State University. He has served as Chair of the Department of Religious Studies and Director of the Honors Program. Since 2008, he has directed the student success and enrollment efforts of the university, overseeing among the fastest improving graduation rates in the nation and the elimination of all achievement gaps based on students’ race, ethnicity or income level. Dr. Renick has testified on strategies for helping university students succeed before the U.S. Senate and has twice been invited to speak at the White House. His work has been covered by the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and CNN and cited by President Obama. He was named one of 2016’s Most Innovative People in Higher Education by Washington Monthly and was the recipient of the 2015-16 Award for National Leadership in Student Success Innovation.
